Mohali : During the current session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, raised the issue of early release of scholarships to the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes. While addressing Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan in the Vidhan Sabha, MLA Mohali Kulwant Singh asked the Minister of Social Justice and Minorities Department, Madam Baljit Kaur, that the scholarship of 2022-23 which was to be given by the Punjab government was Rs 240 crore. Out of which Rs 202 crore has been released and similarly the central government had to give Rs 360 crore as scholarship, out of which Rs 308 crore has been released. And 52 crore rupees is still due to the central government.
Similarly, in the session 2023-24, Rs 600 crore were to be released by the Punjab government for scholarship, out of which 303 crore rupees were released, similarly, almost 6 months have passed since the beginning of the session 2024-25. ,but no money was released in case of scholarship,
MLA Kulwant Singh stated if the children are not able to get money in the form of scholarship, then how will the children be able to complete their education, due to which the whole family has to face difficulties, in response to the question asked by MLA Kulwant Singh, Minister of the concerned department Madam Baljit Kaur said, that in the session from 2017 to 20, the previous governments did not give the benefit of scholarship to the scheduled caste children. They have also been included in the scholarship scheme on behalf of the Punjab government and a demand has been made from the finance department regarding the balance in this regard and the money will be released soon, in response to a question raised by MLA Kulwant Singh, Madam. Baljit Kaur, said that in 2022-23, 2023-24, the bank accounts of Scheduled Caste students were not linked to the Aadhaar card. Due to which this money could not be released, but the children belonging to this Scheduled Caste will get the scholarship money soon.
MLA Mohali Kulwant Singh raised his voice in the Vidhan Sabha regarding the scholarship scheme related to Scheduled Caste in Punjab, even before this, MLA Mohali Kulwant Singh continuously raised issues related to various sectors of the society in the assembly.
