Mohali : With the efforts of Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, there is now hope that Mohali’s bus stand and adjoining road being operational soon.
The bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Khetrapal has issued a notice of motion to Chief Secretary Punjab and 5 another officials for October 23, in the the case filed by the Dy Mayor Mohali Municipal Corporation Kuljit Singh Bedi to make bus stand of Mohali operational and the opening of the adjacent GMADA road. The officials summoned include Chief Secretary, Punjab, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Punjab, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Punjab, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman District Road Safety Committee, SAS Nagar, Mohali and CA Greater Mohali Area Development Authority Mohali.
In a PIL filed by his lawyers Advocate Ranjivan Singh and Advocate Rishamrag Singh, it is said that the respondents be directed to restore and repair the closed ‘one way’ of the main road adjacent to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Inter-State Bus Terminal (Mohali) and make d the bus stand operational which is currently defunct.
It is to be mentioned that due to the non-operation of the bus stand, people have to face a lot of difficulties and due to the closure of the ‘one way’ road, there is a danger to human lives because the part of this road occupied by the bus stand is constantly sinking. The road next to this bus stand has actually been closed since 2009, while this bus stand is also defunct since 2016.
The petition states that the petitioner Kuljit Singh Bedi, serving as Deputy Mayor, Mohali, is a public-spirited resident of Mohali and has been involved in solving various issues related to public welfare of Mohali.
The petitioner, Deputy Mayor Mohali Kuljit Singh Bedi, said that notice of motion has been issued by the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High court Hon’ble Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Khetarpal regarding making Baba Banda Singh Bahadur baster minus operational and opening the road adjacent to it.
He said that the issue of the Mohali bus stand and the road adjacent to it (which is the entry point of Mohali from Verka Chowk after getting off Balongi bridge) has been looming for a long time. He said that people come from the lights of Mohali through this one-way road, but due to a part of the road not being operational, there is a lot of traffic, hundreds of people get stuck here per quite a long time. He said that the people coming from Punjab who have to go to Fortis Hospital or various departments of Punjab face great hardship.
He said that he is satisfied and confident that due to the intervention of the honorable court, the government will now run this bus stand in a good way, will construct the bus stand and the adjacent road will be dedicated to the public which will provide relief to the people.
