Rohtak : Manju Hooda, wife of a gangster and daughter of a former senior cop, has been named as the BJP candidate to challenge Congress stalwart and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. She is the sitting chairperson of the Rohtak Zila Parishad.
Asserting that she has the people’s support despite a strong political background, Manju hopes that winning the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat, currently held by the Congress strongman, will not be a challenge for her.
WHO IS MANJU HOODA?
Manju Hooda has been the chairperson of the Rohtak Zila Parishad for over one and a half years. The BJP aims to highlight the development works undertaken during her tenure, presenting her as a suitable pick for the Assembly elections.
Her husband, Rajesh Hooda, is a known history-sheeter and strongman from Rohtak. While opposition parties are preparing to raise this issue during the campaign, Manju argued that her husband’s past does not affect her work. “I stand for the right cause,” she emphasised.
Manju’s father, Pradeep Yadav, was a Deputy Superintendent of the Haryana Police.
After marrying Rajesh, she changed her name from Manju Yadav to Manju Hooda.
Following her nomination as the BJP candidate, Manju expressed hope that her work as chairperson of the Zila Parishad would bolster her candidature, also stressing her focus on the “welfare of the people”.
The Haryana Assembly elections for the 90-member house are scheduled for October 5. The ruling BJP released its first list of candidates on September 4, including eight women and more than half of its 41 sitting MLAs. Congress also released its first list of 32 candidates.
